Netflix has granted a direct series order for an adaptation of Curtis Sittenfeld’s novel Prep, based on the author’s 2005 debut work. Nicole Taylor, known for her work on One Day, will handle both the adaptation and showrunner duties for the project.
The series will follow Lee Fiora, a scholarship student navigating her high school years at an elite Massachusetts boarding school while contending with the social disparities between herself and her more privileged classmates. The story explores themes of social mobility, adolescent introspection, and the experiences of an outsider within an exclusive educational environment.
Taylor will share executive producing credits with Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alix Taylor of Gloria Sanchez Productions, alongside Sittenfeld herself. In a statement, Taylor expressed her long-standing connection to the source material, noting her desire to adapt the work for two decades following her initial reading of the novel.
Sittenfeld also commented on the project’s development, emphasizing her satisfaction with the casting of Taylor and the quality of the adaptation work. She referenced the extended timeline for bringing the project to screen, describing the wait as justified by the final result.
This series marks the latest of Sittenfeld’s works to move toward screen adaptation. The author’s 2024 novel Romantic Comedy is in development as a film project at New Line and Hello Sunshine, while a Hulu adaptation of her novel Rodham did not advance beyond the development phase following its 2020 pursuit.
