The commander leads the crew and ensures effective communications and decision-making. They are an advocate for the team, empowering crew members to speak up if there is a disagreement or question. They have the final say in times of indecision and are the primary communicator with Mission Control. During ascent and entry, the commander and pilot are prime to handle tasks related to manually piloting the spacecraft and interacting with the displays. The commander of the Artemis II mission is NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman.
