New-Gen Universe, Inc. is introducing its inaugural consumer products initiative during San Diego Comic-Con, featuring a limited-edition trading card set developed in partnership with Cryptozoic Entertainment. The release marks a significant expansion for the franchise, which originated as a Marvel-distributed comic book series and is now developing into a broader transmedia property.
Only 300 convention-exclusive boxes will be available at the July 23–26 event, establishing these cards among the most scarce New-Gen collectibles to date. Each box contains 13 cards: 11 base cards featuring artwork from the comic series, one rainbow foil card, and an autograph card signed by either series creator J.D. Matonti or voice actors Molly Fahey or Tony Oliver. Each autograph card includes an on-card signature with a production run limited to 100 copies, and select additional cards were produced as unique one-of-one pieces. Convention attendees will also receive a complimentary graphic novel with a foreword by Mark Hamill.
The trading card release serves as a bridge between the comic book source material and the upcoming “New-Gen Nanobot Heroes” animated series. The franchise, created by Matonti, Julia Coppola, and Chris Matonti, centers on twin brothers Sean and Chris whose bodies are enhanced by nanotechnology, leading them into conflict with villain Deadalus in a world blending nature and technology. Debra Joester, president of Joester Loria Group, is directing the expansion of New-Gen’s consumer products division.
The forthcoming “New-Gen Nanobot Heroes” series is a 13-episode, 22-minute 3D CGI production helmed by Matonti. The show features voice talent including Finn Wolfhard, Anya Chalotra, Luke Wilson, Lena Headey, and others. Writers include Brent Friedman, known for “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and Eugene Son from “Avengers Assemble.” Toonz Media Group is producing the series with international distribution handled by the same company, while Ketchup Entertainment manages domestic release.
