An individual bypassed security measures and entered the set of NBC’s Today show at 30 Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan on Thursday morning, leading to an arrest by NYPD officers. The incident occurred shortly after 9am when the Midtown North Precinct received reports of a disorderly person in the building. According to police statements and reports from law enforcement officials, the man allegedly lunged at host Craig Melvin and made inflammatory remarks.
Officers responded at 9:19am and took an unidentified individual into custody. The intruder reportedly gained access through a secured area of the facility and initially asked staff members for Al Roker, the show’s longtime weather anchor, before directing his actions toward Melvin. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and the investigation remained ongoing as of the time of reporting.
Operations on the show resumed quickly following the removal of the individual from the set. Both Roker and Melvin continued with their regularly scheduled appearances approximately 15 minutes after the incident, and neither addressed the breach during their on-air segments. The occurrence came at a time when NBC had reportedly increased security protocols at the show following an earlier incident involving a family member of co-host Savannah Guthrie.
Guthrie announced on air that she would be taking a leave of absence from her hosting duties for several weeks to work on a television program based on the word puzzle game Wordle. Melvin has served as an anchor on the program since 2018 and was elevated to co-anchor in January 2025.
