ABC’s medical comedy revival Scrubs has announced casting changes ahead of its second season premiere scheduled for the fall.
Ava Bunn, who portrayed intern Sam Tosh during the first season, has been elevated to series regular status. She will join original cast members Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison in main roles for the upcoming season. Conversely, two recurring cast members from season one will not continue with the show: Joel Kim Booster, who played Dr. Kevin Park, and X Mayo, who portrayed Nurse Raymond, are departing.
The remainder of the intern ensemble will maintain their recurring roles for season two. This includes Jacob Dudman as Asher Green, David Gridley as Blake Lewis, Layla Mohammadi as Amara Hadi, and Amanda Morrow as Dashana Trainor. Additional returning cast members in recurring capacities are Michael James Scott as Nurse Dubois, Vanessa Bayer as hospital HR representative Sibby, and Rachel Bilson as Charlie. Several actors from the original series will also appear in recurring roles, including Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, Neil Flynn and Robert Maschio, while Christa Miller is set to guest star.
The second season will continue to center on J.D., Elliot and Turk as they assume leadership roles and oversee the training of incoming medical professionals. The show’s debut season drew an average of 8.5 million viewers across platforms over its initial five-week run. Aseem Batra serves as showrunner, with executive producers including series creator Bill Lawrence, the three main stars, and various other producers from Lawrence’s Doozer Productions.
