Speaking onstage, Reynolds referenced source material from the original comics that he believes has yet to be adapted for film, mentioning work by co-creator Fabian Nicieza and writer Gerry Duggan as potential inspirations for the project.
The actor-producer offered limited specifics regarding the film’s structure, declining to clarify whether it would focus on Deadpool as the lead character or position him within an ensemble cast alongside other characters. Reynolds did not provide a timeline for production or release.
This announcement comes after reporting that Reynolds had been exploring concepts for a Deadpool project that would incorporate X-Men characters. In prior interviews, Reynolds had indicated skepticism about returning to a standalone Deadpool film, citing concerns about narrative repetition. He previously stated that a fourth solo installment would feel redundant, though he maintained that meaningful storytelling possibilities remained available for the character.
The Deadpool & Wolverine film, released in 2024 and co-starring Hugh Jackman, achieved substantial commercial performance, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film globally with over $1.3 billion in revenue. This success followed earlier franchise entries in 2016 and 2019, both of which also performed strongly at the box office. Marvel Studios has not yet provided official comment on the announcement.
