The team advocated for structural policy measures including food taxation regulations, front-of-package labeling requirements, marketing restrictions, and food reformulation targets designed to improve nutritional quality.
Some independent experts expressed caution about the study’s conclusions, noting limitations in the modeling approach. An emeritus statistics professor from the Open University stated he would not place significant confidence in the detailed numerical estimates presented, and indicated that additional research would be needed to establish definitive links between UPF consumption and heart disease risk.
