Supporting organizations will contribute specialized expertise in institutional change, mathematics education, and learning science. The Gardner Institute will establish governance structures and faculty support systems, while Transforming Postsecondary Education in Mathematics will ensure alignment with broader mathematics community priorities. WestEd will conduct outcome evaluations and help institutions leverage data for continuous improvement.
Program leaders emphasize that successful redesign extends beyond technology adoption to encompassing institutional culture and student support systems. The initiative aims to shift instruction away from traditional lecture-based formats toward more interactive, student-centered approaches incorporating active learning and collaborative work. Success will be measured through tracking student grades and persistence rates across both Calculus I and II over a three-semester implementation period.
