Rana Jaleel, chair of the AAUP’s Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, characterized the coordinated efforts as attempts to subordinate universities to political interests rather than genuine efforts to improve educational functions. Jaleel argued that such actions remove decision-making authority from academics and scholars, placing it instead with elected officials who lack expertise in educational matters.

The White House declined to comment on the AAUP’s allegations and report.
