‘Rick and Morty’ Spinoff ‘President Curtis’ Scores Early Season 2 Renewal at Adult Swim

During a San Diego Comic-Con panel, the creators of President Curtis announced the show has secured a second season renewal before its debut. The animated series premieres its first season on Sunday immediately after the season nine finale of Rick and Morty, with subsequent episodes available to stream on HBO Max the following day.

Keith David voices the lead character, President Andre Curtis, alongside co-stars Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash. The show was created and executive produced by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, with additional executive producers Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell and Steve Levy. The spinoff centers on Curtis, a character who has appeared in the Rick and Morty universe since his introduction during the season two episode “Get Schwifty.”

The series follows President Curtis and his staff as they contend with various crises spanning interdimensional diplomacy, paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena. The greenlit second season is expected to introduce new antagonists, complex partnerships and unusual assignments for the characters. Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, issued a statement praising David’s performance and the creative team’s vision for the project.

The parent series Rick and Morty, which launched in 2013, has been renewed through season 12. Additionally, supervising director Jacob Hair has been in discussions regarding an animated feature film adaptation of Rick and Morty for Warner Bros.
