On October 3rd, the Mars Express orbiter’s High Resolution Stereo Camera and the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter’s Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System both captured images of the comet, though detecting the object proved extremely challenging given its apparent brightness was between 10,000 and 100,000 times fainter than illuminated Martian features.
The observation of 3I/ATLAS holds scientific significance as an opportunity to study material from another star system.
